The Ionia County Road Commission Board on Wednesday tried $5 million worth of county and trunk line paving contracts for projects in 2019 and 2020. The money will come from 1 mill tried by voters in August’s primary election. — Submitted photo The Ionia County Road Commission Board on Wednesday tried $5 million worth of county and trunk line paving contracts for projects in 2019 and 2020. The money will come from 1 mill tried by voters in August’s primary referendum (the final tally was 5,859 “yes” votes to 4,672 “no” votes — a difference of 1,187 votes). The Road Commission tried a $4,985,550 bid from SuperiorTileInc. in Lansing to do hot mix tile work on county roads, and a $44,395.20 bid from Michigan Paving & Materials in Lansing to do hot mix tile for trunk line roads for a total of $5,029,945.Equalto Road Commission Managing Director Dorothy Pohl, the combined bids are the largest the Road Commission has overly approved. The last time the Road Commission tried plane tropical to this value of work was in 1998 without the state gas tax was increased and the county was worldly-wise to do $2 million worth of projects with the help of a bond.Tileprices were well-nigh one-third of what they forfeit today. “It’s the largest contract we’ve overly put out or tried at least in the 26 years I’ve been here,” Pohl said. “It really is a historic day, that’s what the millage is doing for us. It’s really good news. We’re going to be really rented for the next two years, but people are going to be really happy.” Superior Asphalt’s bid was 15 percent increasingly than the previous year due to increased demand for labor and trucking, withal with projecting into 2020; however, this year, the county saw a 15 percent subtract in pricing from 2017, equal to Road Commission Managing Director Dorothy Pohl. Michigan Paving’s bid was 5 percent increasingly than the previous year due to the uncertainty of the project and it is only bid out to have an tile contractor ready for last minute or emergency Michigan Department of Transportation trunk line paving work, equal to Pohl. Reith-Riley Construction Co. moreover submitted a bid, however, Ionia County wonted the other two bids as the county have previously worked with both SuperiorTileand Michigan Paving and their bids were lower. Pohl noted the two years’ worth of projects are all contracted at the same price. “We’ve locked in what it’s going to forfeit to get that work washed-up now, which makes it a lot easier for planning,” she said. Ken Gasper, a six-year member of the Road Commission Board, was equally excited well-nigh the upcoming projects. “There was a lot of work put into this, expressly to get the millage passed,” he said. “There were some roads that weren’t going to see any fixes until 2022, so this is just a step-up process to get these roads stock-still a lot sooner than if we had tried to get them stock-still out of the unstipulated fund. It’s just unconfined that we can fix the worst roads in Ionia County and not have to spend all our management and employees’ time out there patching roads. “We were very happy by the voters giving us the opportunity to fix our roads sooner.” A closer squint The pursuit 30.8 miles of Ionia County roads will be resurfaced in 2019: • Hayes Road, McKenna Road and Vernier Road from Borden to Bricker • Woods Road from M-66 to Powell • Orleans Road and Haynor Road from M-44 to Cowan • Krupp Road, Andres Road, Jacoby Road and Hawley Highway from Zahn to Ellison • Ellison Road from Hawley to Chickering • Ware Road, Conklin Road, Peck Lake Road and Hastings Road from Montcalm to Grand River • Nickle Plate Road from the end of the tile to Hubbardston • David Highway from the underpass over Libhart to Lyons • Grand River Avenue from Jordan Lake to Kelsey • Portland Road from Jackson to Jordan Lake • Sunfield Highway from Grand River to Clarksville The pursuit 26.8 miles of Ionia County roads will be resurfaced in 2020: • Long Lake Road from Bricker to M-66 • Borden Road from Stage to the village of Hubbardston • Johnson Road from M-44 to Woolridge • WhitesUnderpassRoad from the north end of tile to Sayles • Clarksville Road from Jackson to Jordan Lake • Musgrave Highway from M-66 to Subfield • Vedder Road, Tasker Road and Jordan Lake Street from Bliss to M-50 Share This Article:IncreasinglyFrom Local News Go To The Local News SectionVendors, towers owner left empty-handed without sudden closure of Home2Home consignment shop in GreenvillePlans coming together for Stanton’s Veterans Memorial ParkMilitary Mother Meet & Greet set for Dec. 11 Leave a Reply Cancel replyYou must be logged in to post a comment.
