Since latter on Sept. 22, former vendors of the Home2Home variety store and consignment shop in Greenville have been left without answers regarding the return of items left in the store as well as unpaid revenues they speak are due to them but went unpaid by owner Lori Clevenger. — DN Photo | Cory Smith Two months later, the shop stands empty, and former vendors have been left with numerous questions as to what store owner Lori Clevenger did with many items that had been left within the sealed store, as well as revenues to vendors that tangibly went unpaid. “She still has several of my handmade quilts. I’ve been trying for weeks to contact her, but I haven’t heard from her,” vendor Betty Tramper told the Daily News. “I did go to the store the day without they sealed to meet with Lori, but she didn’t show up. Lori has not been answering any phone calls or messages.” “I was a vendor moreover and my last checks bounced from her, which forfeit me in return fees,” vendor Corine Mapes said. That lack of liaison is not unique to Tramper and Mapes, as multiple other vendors — as many as 30 once occupied the store at one time — have failed to get in touch with Clevenger, including towers owner Davide Uccello. Located at 310 S. Lafayette St. in Greenville, the Home2Home variety store and consignment shop sealed in September, but several former vendors are still wondering if they will overly see the return of items that were left in the store or revenue they speak are due to them but went unpaid by owner Lori Clevenger. — DN Photo | Cory Smith The Daily News attempted to contact Clevenger through her posted phone number and personal Facebook page — as the Home2Home Facebook page has been deleted — but the phone number was shredded and Clevenger did not respond through Facebook. According to Uccello, without a year in merchantry in his towers at 310 S. Lafayette St., everything appeared fine, until Clevenger asked that the monthly rent be lowered in June. “She came to me and said she really can’t sire to pay this rent anymore and was thinking that they may have to tropical lanugo the store,” he said. “I said I don’t want that to happen, it’s very good for Greenville and the community, so I lowered the rent.” Uccello said Clevenger paid rent the pursuit July and August, but in September, things fell apart. Lori Clevenger, owner of the Home2Home consignment store at 310 S. Lafayette St., picks out a song to play on a jukebox during the opening of her merchantry in March 2017. — DN file photo “I lowered this rent out of good faith so she could stay unshut and pay on time, but that’s when she just kept putting me off, ‘yeah, I’ll get the rent to you,’ she said, but the rent wasn’t coming.” Uccello said Clevenger expressed she was going through “personal issues,” a statement she moreover made on the Home2Home Facebook page prior to its deletion, as an excuse for not having the necessary rent. Uccello said with a portion of her lease yet to be paid off, and rent behind, he made her an offer. “I asked her if there any way that she’d be willing to sign over the business, and then I wouldn’t collect the remainder of the amount,” he said. But without two weeks, Clevenger declined the offer and sealed her store. Uccello said he put her on a two-year payment plan to pay off the $12,000 she owed him, but when the first payment came, she didn’t pay. Uccello set up an wattle to meet in person to discuss the issue and have Clevenger turn over the keys to the building, but said she never showed up to the meeting. “I arrived, but she’s not there, and everything is out of the building,” he said. “She’s not answering the phone, so I reverted the locks on the building, and that was that.” Uccello said he reached out to Home2Home co-owner Tom Kinney well-nigh the situation, who reacted with shock. “He was all mind-boggled well-nigh the situation,” Uccello said. “Tom told me that the place was making money, but he doesn’t know where the money was going. He said there were a lot of sales, but there was something missing there.” Uccello said Kinney wanted to loftiness himself from the merchantry and signed a document transferring over his rights to the merchantry to Clevenger, but the documents were never filed. Now, Uccello said he has contacted his tribunal and plans to go to magistrate to remedy the situation and recoup the $12,000 he is owed. “The reason I want to go to court, half of it is well-nigh the loss in funds, but the other half is to get ahold of the Home2Home name so I can re-open it in Greenville,” he said. “I once have somebody lined up who will completely run it and everything. It’s just a matter of going through this process, which will probably be a very long process, from what my lawyers are telling me.” Meanwhile, Uccello said while he has received multiple calls and emails from concerned vendors, he has forwarded them to Kinney, who has stated in good faith that he will “make everything right.” “All of these vendors alimony calling me, messaging me, emailing me … the one positive thing for me is, in talking to Tom, he said, ‘send all the vendors to me, and I will make it right out of my pocket.’ Since I’ve spoken to them, I send them his way. He sounds really sincere well-nigh making this thing right. I hope when the time comes, he is truthful well-nigh it.”   A SILVER LINING Though frustrated with the situation, with the first floor of the two-story towers empty, Uccello said he is now moving forward with renovation plans for the unshortened building. Uccello said he is currently finalizing a rental rehabilitation grant, as well as pursuing an spare facade grant, through the Michigan Economic Development Corp., in order to completely remodel the towers and restore it to its former glory. Uccello said his architectural designs undeniability for seven new apartments to be synthetic on the second story, which currently sits as one large vacant room, as well as turning the first floor into a space that could serve as a home to one business, or be divided into two. In addition, the false brick facade on the front and when of the buildings would be removed and restored to their condition circa the 1930s. “This situation, it kind of gives me the endangerment anyway to get the apartments washed-up while the first story is empty,” he said. “Then we can redo the facade and reopen the store then the right way with people I can trust.” If the grant requests are approved, Uccello said the total project, including the original purchase of the building, would forfeit approximately $1.2 million. Uccello, withal with his brother, Dan Uccello, previously invested $1.5 million in three former historic buildings in need of repair, turning two of those buildings into Flo’s Pizzeria Ristorante & Sports Bar, and renovating the third proximal building, which now serves as the home to Unique Nook and Everything FallsUntiedBoutique Shoppe. “When we came into Greenville, we saw a downtown polity that was very, very unique, but underutilized,” Uccello said. “There was no sense of direction of where this downtown was going. It reminded us a lot of our hometown in Sicily, Italy. It just makes it a very, very unique situation where you want to put all of your time and effort and investment into it. That’s really where it stems from. I moreover believe that Greenville is the next up-and-coming polity and that our downtown can be one and the same like Rockford has. So not only do I have an emotional zipper to it, but I moreover see the opportunity and it’s just a matter of getting increasingly people on workbench to do increasingly of these types of things.” Share This Article:IncreasinglyFrom Local News Go To The Local News SectionPlans coming together for Stanton’s Veterans Memorial ParkMilitary Mother Meet & Greet set for Dec. 11Belding’s Home for the Holidays event returns Saturday Leave a Reply Cancel replyYou must be logged in to post a comment.
