From left, Stanton Clerk/Treasurer Lori Braman, Mayor Lori Williams,MunicipalityManager Vester Davis and commissioners Ray Holloway and Vladimir Edelman review plans for Veterans Memorial Park during Tuesday’s meeting. — DN Photo | Brandon Schreur During Tuesday’sMunicipalityCommission meeting,MunicipalityManager Vester Davis and Mayor Lori Williams provided an update on the progress that has been made in the past month regarding the developing park project. “We had a Veterans Park Committee meeting last night, where we discussed some of our conceptual layouts and made some changes,” Davis said. “(Engineering firm) Prein & Newhof will be subtracting some spare revisions based off those conversations, and then we can move forward with phase one.” Phase 1 will see the property cleared of trees and the installation of two ballfields, a playground and a portion of the parking lot. The possibility of a third ballpark someday stuff built in the north end of the park hasn’t been ruled out either. “We’ve been told there are well-nigh 170 participants in Little League each year. With the use of the two ballfields that we have now and the two that we’re going to build, we finger this should be sufficient for now,” Davis said. Williams clarified that they plan to well-spoken space for the third field during phase one of the Veterans Memorial Park project, so the construction hairdo doesn’t have to try to get their equipment when there at a later date. The playground, meanwhile, is set to be installed just north of the parking lot. “The price for the playground is $50,000, which, in my opinion, buys us a significantly nice playground area,” Williams said. “We could still pay increasingly or less and then add pieces as we go along, but I like the idea of it stuff placed whilom the parking lot, so you don’t have siblings, cousins, etc. running virtually moving cars like the initial proposal had.” The total forfeit for phase 1 of the park, Davis estimates, is upward of $300,000. With $200,000 once earmarked for the park during a previousMunicipalityCommission meeting, that ways spare funding is still necessary. And that price tag isn’t set in stone just yet. The Veterans Park Committee has once begun brainstorming ways they could bring that forfeit down. “These prices are all based on if we were to contract everything out without volunteer labor,” Williams said. “They moreover include a lot of little things that the baseball representatives said we could hold off on, or possibly never install depending on what the need is. Things like a printing box, a warning strip or irrigation systems. We just have to squint at everything presented versus what we finger is truly needed.” Ideally, the municipality would moreover be worldly-wise to rake in a number of grants to help imbricate the forfeit of the park as well. “(Commissioner Mary Thomas) shared a list of grants with me at one point, which we can bring when to life,” Davis said. “I know the Michigan Natural Resource Trust Fund grant is coming up in April, which we could be in line for.” The Veterans Park Committee plans to meet then in January to go over the layout once then so that they can hopefully be ready to unravel ground come spring. “Once we have a largest idea of everything we need, I’d estimate phase 1 should take well-nigh three months or so,” Davis said. “We need to make sure we have the funding, of course, but I think it should be a two or three-month project.” The next StantonMunicipalityCommission meeting will be 7 p.m. Dec. 11 atMunicipalityHall.
