Jacoby became the first Green Hornet since 1978 to sign onto play a sport for an NCAA Division 1 university when Mike Emmory played for Central Michigan University. — DN Photo | Alex Freeman STANTON — On Tuesday, surrounded by his friends and family, Central Montcalm senior Andrew Jacoby signed his letter of intent to play baseball at Oakland University. Jacoby will be just 140 miles southwest of his upper school when next fall arrives, which is one of the many reasons Oakland stood out to him as the correct higher nomination for him. “I chose Oakland considering I love the players, they were pretty cool,” Jacoby said. “The coaches were really nice and obviously knew what they were talking about. The campus was great, it was beautiful.” With Tuesday’s signing, Jacoby will be the first Central Montcalm student to play a sport at an NCAA Division 1 university since Mike Emmory in 1978 when he played at Central Michigan University, equal to Central Montcalm baseball mentor Bob Luginbuhl. Luginbuhl knows just how special and rare Jacoby’s signing was. “It’s very exciting,” Luginbuhl said. “I know this is something that he has worked really nonflexible for. He’s played a lot of high-end travel baseball for a long time, so he’s put the work in to maximize this opportunity for himself, so I’m very proud of him.” Jacoby has played on the Green Hornets’ varsity baseball team since he was a freshman. The wits with the older competition, and teammates, helped propel Jacoby to this point. “It’s a unconfined wits to play with the higher level (of competition) and play with guys who are older than me to learn increasingly and modernize my game with those guys,” Jacoby said. A pitcher by trade, Jacoby plays first wiring as well as stuff a solid hitter, equal to Luginbuhl.Increasinglyimportantly,  Luginbuhl added, he’s a unconfined teammate. “Off the field, he’s very good with his teammates,” Luginbuhl said. “He unquestionably won our team ribbon last year for encouragement. He’s kind of one of those overdue the scenes guys considering he’s kind of a quiet-natured kid, but overdue the scenes, he’s really very encouraging to his teammates in variegated situations.” Andrew Jacoby, middle, sits with his family and mentor pursuit the signing of his letter of intent to play baseball for Oakland University on Tuesday. This coming year, he hopes to work on his pitch location. “I need to work on, when I get superiority in the count, to throw largest pitches instead of strikes,” Jacoby said. “I need to locate increasingly considering higher guys are not going to chase.” Last season, the Oakland Golden Grizzlies baseball team finished fourth in the Horizon League with a priming record of 12-14. Given all of Jacoby’s accomplishments, Luginbuhl still sees plenty of room for resurgence in his game and is excited to see how he does in his senior season. “He’s not washed-up growing and developing yet,” Luginbuhl said. “He’s still filling out and I think he’s going to add some miles per hour. He throws quite nonflexible now and I think he’s going to throw plane harder. It’s nonflexible to say what happens there, but I definitely think he has a endangerment to be a successful higher pitcher.” Jacoby plans to major in sociology and then transition into a criminal justice program.
