Revved Up 50-Plus Specials CLASSIFIEDS Add a Classified Listing E-Edition Current E-Edition Providing senior superintendency that’s ‘Just Like Home’ By Mike Taylor | on August 06, 2018 At left, Danielle Camp and her mother, Tracy Hodgkins are opening an sultana daycare part-way for adults who require assistance and to provide respite for their superintendency providers. We’re getting older. Not just you and me, but everyone; the unshortened population. That’s the bad news. The good news is, we’re living longer. And unfortunately, that’s not in every respect good news, either. As the population ages, senior superintendency has wilt a greater snooping – a greater problem – than it has been for any previous generation. Grandma and grandpa, mom and dad; what do we do with them when they’re too old to properly superintendency for themselves? In Ionia, caregivers will soon have a new option; something between assisted living and full-time home care. Tracy Hodgkins, director of Just Like HomeSultanaDay Center, 330 Fourth St., says she hopes to unshut the facility by the end of September. Currently, the towers is undergoing infrastructure improvements to unbend its new purpose. Unlike some senior superintendency facilities, Just Like Home caters to caregivers who are currently managing the wires of a senior and could use some occasional help. Like a children’s daycare, Just Like Home offers many variegated superintendency options, everything from a half-day to five days to 24-hour care. Hodgkins, a former nurse who manages the facility with her daughter (also a nurse) Danielle Camp, says she hopes to fill an obvious need in the community. “There’s no sultana part-way in the Ionia zone at this time,” Hodgkins said. “I had worked in hospice and ER in a hospital setting since 1978. My daughter did similar work in Detroit for 12 years, so we’ve had years of experience.” Hodgkins notes that too often, patients discharged from Medicare wind up with few options. Also, those receiving home superintendency from a son or daughter commonly lack for social interaction. To top it off, the life of a caregiver can be stressful, frustrating and time-consuming. This is expressly true of those caring for a loved one with dementia or Alzheimer’s. “If the family is going to take superintendency of them, but they still have to work for a living, it can wilt a real issue,” Hodgkins said. “It can wilt quite plush to have someone come into the home and plane if someone does, they don’t get any socialization. If they start getting Alzheimer’s and start having memory issues, the caregiver gets stressed.” That’s why Just Like Home offers everything from one day to five days per week care. It gives the caregiver a endangerment to “recharge,” and provides a nurturing, stimulating social situation for the senior. “Rather than have (the senior) sit home and watch TV or have them go into an assisted living situation, we can take superintendency of them during the day and provide the caregiver with a little help,” Hodgkins said. The center’s curriculum currently includes pet therapy courtesy of the unprepossessing shelter and 4-H volunteers, myriad craft classes, bingo and lots of musical programs. In fact, the part-way has a piano on site and plans many performances. “We moreover have someone coming in to play cards and games,” Hodgkins added. “And we’re going to do some field trips, such as movie theaters and fishing trips; that kind of thing.” Hodgkins moreover plans to have a hair stylist come in a couple times each week, so clients can have their hair washed-up while they’re there. A shower facility moreover is provided, one catering to clients with physical disabilities that might preclude a regular, home shower. Cost for the daycare comes out to well-nigh $10 per hour for most services. Hodgkins notes that several clients have once signed up, despite the fact the part-way won’t unshut for flipside two months. Currently, the part-way will be worldly-wise to handle 20 clients per day in its 5,000 square feet facility located on four fenced-in acres. Hodgkins is encouraging interested parties to visit the facility and take a squint around. She concedes that sometimes, an older person might be reluctant to requite the part-way a shot. In such cases, the caregiver is invited to trailblaze the family member and work as a volunteer until the vendee if fully used to the new environment. “It’s to make it a smoother transition,” Hodgkins said. “If the caregiver can see they’re OK and relaxed, then they can go and get the strength and mental wellness to superintendency for their loved one considering they know the loved one is doing well at the center.”Increasinglyinformation is misogynist online on Facebook at justlikehomeionia or by emailing the part-way at justlikehomeionia@gmail.com.
