From right, Rick Outman of Six Lakes, who was elected to Michigan Senate District 33, watches referendum results update live on a palmtop at Turk Lake Bar and Restaurant on Tuesday night as Rep. Jim Lower, R-Cedar Lake, withal with his son, Aaron, and wife, Kristen, watch. — DN Photo | Cory Smith Rick Outman of Six Lakes, who previously served as state representative for the 70th District from 2010 to 2016, received 32,260 votes (59 percent), defeating Democratic challenger Mark Bignell with 20,639 votes (38 percent) and U.S. Taxpayer Party candidate Christopher Comden 1,634 votes (3 percent) with 68 percent of precincts reporting to the Michigan Senate 33rd District, which covers the counties of Clare, Gratiot, Isabella, Mecosta and Montcalm. Rep. John Bizon, R-Battle Creek, who is concluding his second term as a state representative, sought instead of seeking a third term to run for referendum to the state Senate. Bizon received 34,381 votes (58 percent), defeating Democratic challenger Jason Noble with 23,516 votes (39 percent) and Libertarian candidate Joseph Gillotte with 1,772 votes (3 percent) with 54 percent of precincts reporting for referendum to the Michigan Senate 19th District, which covers the counties of Barry, Calhoun and Ionia. Outman was emotional Tuesday night reflecting on his win from Turk Lake Bar and Restaurant, only a short loftiness lanugo the road from where his sister Shelly Gilman was tragically killed in a car wrecking Oct. 20. “My firsthand reaction probably isn’t what most people would expect,” he told the Daily News. “It reminds of when I was in the Army. I had fun, but there was unchangingly a sense of melancholy considering I wanted to be home so bad. Here tonight, it’s fun, but I wish my sister was here. So I’ve got a little bit of that same feeling … but that stuff said, I’m certainly honored and humbled.” Outman said the idea of holding a seat in the Senate has an overwhelming finger to it, but he believes his previous time as a state representative has him well prepared. “It’s a daunting task to me. I hate to tell people that it’s something that I didn’t expect, but if you had asked me at the whence of my state rep. career if I was thinking well-nigh the Senate, my wordplay would unequivocally have been ‘no,’” he said. “I never unsupportable that I’d be the one moving up, I wasn’t looking for it, but I’m certainly honored that the people of this district put their faith in me for at least flipside four years.” Going forward, Outman said he will retain the same work ethic that led to successes in the Michigan House, and wield it to the Senate. “What I can tell people is I will work as nonflexible or harder as I did as a state rep., and I have the luxury now to hit the ground running, which I didn’t have before,” he said. “There’s no learning lines now. There are certainly a lot of things I know I can succeed now considering I don’t have to wait to learn how to do it. I’m just honored.” Bizon said he is excited to expand his wiring of constitutes in representing a larger demographic zone as a State Senator. I’ll be looking forward to serving the people of Calhoun, Barry and Ionia counties moving forward,” he told the Daily News. “There’s still a lot of work that needs to get done. We will obviously be working wideness the walkway to make sure that we squint out for our constituents.” Bizon said his focus still remains on completing his second term as the state representative for House District 62, but once he takes office in January, he won’t waste a moment getting to work in the Senate. “There are a number of things that we need to get through first in the lame-duck session,” he said. “I’m wrung I won’t be looking at next term until we’re washed-up with the merchantry at hand.” With such a large turnout at the polls Tuesday, Bizon said he was honored to have received the majority of the vote to represent the 19th District in the Senate. “I am humbled by the support that has been shown to me, not only in Calhoun County, but moreover in Barry and Ionia counties,” he said. “I am grateful to the electorate for its trust in me to represent them.” Share This Article:IncreasinglyFrom Local News Go To The Local News SectionVendors, towers owner left empty-handed without sudden closure of Home2Home consignment shop in GreenvillePlans coming together for Stanton’s Veterans Memorial ParkMilitary Mother Meet & Greet set for Dec. 11 Leave a Reply Cancel replyYou must be logged in to post a comment.
