Jim Lower, R-Cedar Lake, defeated Democratic challenger Kresta Train of Greenville with 14,396 votes (63 percent) to 8,563 votes (37 percent) with 66 percent of precincts reporting to the 70th District, which covers all of Montcalm County, and the northwest portion of Gratiot County, including the cities of Carson City, Greenville, Stanton, Alma and St. Louis. Rep. Julie Calley, R-Portland, defeated Democratic challenger Shawn Marie Winters of Hastings with 8,175 votes (68 percent) to 3,896 votes (32 percent) with 48 percent of precincts reporting to the 87th District, which covers portions of eastern and southern portions of Ionia County, as well as all of Barry County, including the cities of Portland and Hastings. Rep. Thomas Albert, R-Lowell, received 18,968 votes (59 percent), defeating Democratic challenger Lauren Taylor of Cascade Township with 12,123 votes (38 percent) and Independent challenger Sue Norman of Caledonia with 1,092 votes (three percent) with 52 percent of precincts reporting to the 86th District, which covers portions of southeast Kent and northwest Ionia counties, including the cities of Lowell, Belding and Ionia. Lower said he was humbled and eager to protract working for his district, standing to represent his constituents in Lansing. “It’s just a huge honor, obviously, to have gotten the voter’s conviction two years ago, worked really nonflexible on their behalf, got a lot of really important things done, and then earned their conviction for a second term,” he told the Daily News. “It’s really rewarding considering the wayfarers I ran was 100 percent positive. I never mentioned my opponent’s name one time. It was all well-nigh what I was trying to work on and what I felt was important for the community. To see that the voters recognized that and realized that I’ve been doing a good job, that the economy has picked up, jobs are coming when to our zone and taxes are stuff lowered, it feels good to see that they recognized that and wanted to send me when for a second term. I can’t fathom that enough.” Lower said his focus on the next two years will be primarily on property tax reform, keeping Michigan’s water wipe and skilled trades. “In our polity and virtually the state, property taxes have unfurled to go up. It’s a huge problem,” he said. “If you squint at how Michigan is doing on taxes, whether its corporate tax, income tax, property tax, when you squint at all of those taxes, we’re pretty competitive with other states, with the exception of property taxes. So that’s an zone of focus for me. With PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) and E. coli, those issues will remain a top priority for me and keeping them out of our water, withal with standing to focus on increasingly skilled trades in our state.” Calley moreover expressed gratitude in stuff re-elected to her district. Julie Calley “Words might be inadequate but I’ll try. I just want to requite a very sincere thank you to all of those who are willing to protract supporting my tenure as their representative in Lansing,” she told the Daily News. “I am both honored and grateful for the opportunity to protract serving the residents of District 87. It’s just an incredibly hard-working district, and I am incredibly proud to represent their voice in Lansing.” Calley said there are a number of issues she will protract to work toward improving as she places her focus on the next two years in Lansing. “First and foremost, I think we really need to focus on reforming wheels insurance,” she said. “That’s the No. 1 thing I protract to hear from my constituents and moreover statewide. I moreover want to focus on rural broadband, and without spare tax increases, help the state infrastructure.”Withoutimplementation a number of goals in his first two years, Thomas Albert said he is ready to protract working toward spare issues he feels need to be resolved in Lansing. “It’s just an honor tonight, stuff from the 86th District, that’s where my friends and family are,” he told the Daily News. “It’s quite an wits to be worldly-wise to represent them in Lansing. I’ve worked extremely nonflexible for this district and tried to communicate as weightier as I can, going door to door, sending out mailers and holding office hours. I guess its just reassuring that I just need to alimony doing what I’m doing and alimony communicating with my constituents. Thomas Albert Lower said he hopes the next two years in office can be spent re-examining a number of issues statewide. “I kind of defended my first couple of years trying to examine our long-term liabilities and searching for a long-term plan going forward, and I want to make sure we stop the trundling of passing on debt to our kids,” he said. I have three kids under the age of six, and I want to make sure they have a largest starting point in life than I did. I’ve washed-up a lot with policy in righting the ship with unfunded liabilities, and now I’d like to go on onto the appropriations side of that. With pension liabilities, we have to a smarter path going forward, but pensions are pretty complicated things.” Share This Article:IncreasinglyFrom Local News Go To The Local News SectionVendors, towers owner left empty-handed without sudden closure of Home2Home consignment shop in GreenvillePlans coming together for Stanton’s Veterans Memorial ParkMilitary Mother Meet & Greet set for Dec. 11 Leave a Reply Cancel replyYou must be logged in to post a comment.
